Tofino Fishing Report – 2013 Halibut Fishing Announcement
The recreational halibut fishery announcement has just been released and although there have been a few changes, the recreational sector will still be able to enjoy the pursuit of fishing for the mighty pacific Halibut on the coast of Vancouver Island, B.C.
This article will summarize the new details regarding the recreational Halibut fishing opening for the 2013 fishing season. When in doubt, ask BEFORE you fish!
- Coast wide, the halibut fishery opens on March 15, 2013, until further notice
- From March 15 through March 31: 1 daily limit, 2 in possession, only one greater than 83cm (around 15 lbs) Please note that this is valid with your 2012-2013 tidal water angling license, and new licenses must be applied for as of April 1, 2013
- From April 1 until further notice: 1 daily limit, 2 in possession, only one greater than 83cm, but MAXIMUM SIZE OF 126CM (around 60 lbs) and the second halibut no larger than 83cm
- There will be a coast wide annual halibut limit of 6 per license holder and all halibut retained must be immediately recorded on your tidal water angling license with the appropriate area marked.
