Tofino Fishing Charters at Their Finest: July 2011 Salmon and Halibut Fishing Report Tofino B.C.

Posted on: July 31st, 2011 by Blake Klopfenstein

We’re right in the peak of the season and the fishing consistency and size quality has been fantastic so far.  Sunny skies have welcomed a number of our guests and along with comfortable sea conditions and our offshore fishing experience has been by far the most popular excursion at this time in the season.  Producing mature Chinook salmon ranging lately in size from 20 to 35 pounds and halibut in varied sizes between 15 and 60 lbs.  Not having to fish too far offshore has been a welcome relief, as our typical salmon fishing has been up to 6 miles offshore or closer and good options along the outer reef systems a mere 15 minute boat ride from town.  Now is the time you would expect a Tyee Chinook salmon (a chinook 30 lbs or larger) so it’s time to get you out on the water!  Larger hearing behind a flasher seems to target the larger chinook as well as our favourite plug patterns, the 500 or 602 in a 5-7 inch size.

The largely anticipated Coho salmon run is now in full force in the heart of Clayoquot Sound, producing exceptional numbers over a preferred slack tide event, using our favorite needle fish houchie patterns or small silver spoons.  We have had some good success on the fly fishing front, producing some mature Coho in the 5-8 lb range while trolling our custom tied local bucktails on the surface close behind the prop wash.  Our flyfishing season is shaping up extremely well so get your 8 weights ready and tie up some new leaders!

If you are contemplating your first trip for the summer or you’re thinking of coming for round two, we still have a few days left in August, but availability is becoming more limited.  Please call us at 18557263828 or email us at blake@cleanlinesportfishing.com to book your ultimate sportfishing experience with Cleanline Sportfishing in Tofino B.C.

What they are Saying

Our family went out with Blake for the day in late July and we had a blast! Caught our limit of Halibut and Chinook salmon. Even got 4 crabs from the traps. Blake is an excellent guide who knows where the fish are and how to catch them. Came home with 130 lbs of tasty fish. I would recommend Blake and Cleanline charters to anyone wanting a good time fishing out of Tofino. Trip of a lifetime for sure.
